Obituary for Mary E Lincoln

Mary Esther was born July 29, 1922, in Etty, Ky., to Mary Johnson and William Creed Osborne. The family made many moves across the United States, settling for a brief time in Albuquerque, N.M. By the time she reached school age, the family moved on to Winchester. After several moves, they chose to live in the Clearwater Valley, settling along Hatwai Creek, where she attended grade school before the family moved to Spalding, where she finished high school with honors.

Her family moved back to Kentucky for several years and she attended West Baltimore General Hospital School of Nursing in Maryland as a cadet nurse. Upon graduation, she entered the Army Nurses Corp. She served on the S.S. Stafford Hospital Ship as a first lieutenant during World War II and in the U.S. Army Base General Hospital in Manila, Philippines, and Japan during the American occupation. Returning home to this area, she found employment with the Northern Idaho District Health Department as a traveling nurse. She worked as a nurse for Potlatch Forest Corp.

She married James G. Forsman on Feb. 20, 1948, and they resided on Sweetwater Creek, where they were engaged in raising Hereford cattle until his death in 1966. She married Ivan Lincoln and moved to Lapwai, where she worked for the Lapwai School District. After Ivan's death, she remained in her home until 2013, when for health reasons she joined the residents at Riverview Residential Care, where she was greatly enjoyed and gently cared for until her passing on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.

She was a longtime member of the Lapwai Valley Presbyterian Church, where she served as elder and clerk at various times, and her love of the Lord grew over the years. She served with the Presbyterian Women of the church, planning annual bazaars and community dinners, along with making hundreds of beautiful quilts. She was a proud member of the Lapwai Community Club. Her hobbies included needlework and quilting, gardening and preserving, fishing and traveling to feed her wandering spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and all 10 of her siblings: Jerry, Morgan, Myrtle Wallace, Louise Vickers, Glenna Carrick, Stanley, Judson, Vance, Carson and Wanda Osborne. She is survived by her four children, Mary Meacham and her husband, Kent, James Forsman, William "Deat" Forsman and his wife, Mona, and Lynnette Hiebert, along with 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, who were her greatest treasures.

There will be no services, but at her request the family will scatter her cremains on the beloved Forsman Ranch on Craig Mountain at a later date.
