Obituary for Walter Paul Rode

Walter Paul Rode passed away peacefully in his home Jan. 5, 2018, as a result of Lewy Body dementia, his wife Cyndi and dog Bailey faithfully by his side.

Paul was born in Lewiston on Aug. 8, 1953, to Walter and Margaret (Henson) Rode. He began his education in Lewiston, later moving to Kendrick, where he attended Kendrick High School and graduated in 1971.

Paul married Jenny Brown on Oct. 7, 1971. He found work at Potlatch Corp., which led to the couple's move to Lewiston in 1980. Three daughters were born from this union; the couple later divorced in 1991.

In the late 1990s, Paul met Cyndi Lange, whom he married on March 5, 1999. Cyndi brought a new attitude and joy to Paul's life. They moved to Las Vegas, Hawaii and California before learning of Paul's diagnosis and moving back home to Lewiston. Cyndi painstakingly cared for Paul in their home until his passing, with the help of many loved ones and caregivers.

Paul enjoyed watching his westerns, The Voice and numerous game shows, but above all loved his time with his loved ones. Nothing brought that crooked smile to his face more than being surrounded by his family.

Paul is survived by his wife, Cyndi; his daughters, Stephanie (Jason) Harper, Carrie (Randy) Rode-Casto, Melissa Rode, Chiristina (Guy) Alati, Stephanie (Bryan) Lotts, Dede (Rod) Philhower and Brittney (Kevin) Lange-Holm; his grandchildren, Sierra Rode, Kalyssa and Ariana Harper, Mitch and Logan Lotts, Kaydence Skinner and Ashna Casto, Jimmy and Jordan Gates and Jack Philhower.

There will be a celebration of life with covered-dish dinner at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at the Clarkston Eagles, 505 Maple St., Clarkston.

A special thank you to Krystal Gutknecht, Noel Coburn and David Curry, daughter Brittney Lange and granddaughter Kaydence Skinner for your continued care, love and support.
